What product designers actually do all week
After this you can describe a product designer's week (the meetings, the artifacts, the share of time not spent in Figma) without romanticising it.
Why it matters
The most common beginner misconception is that this job is mostly drawing screens. It isn't. Expect a large share of the week in conversation: with PMs about scope, engineers about feasibility, users in research sessions, and other designers in critique. Watch specifically for how much time goes to things that are not visual craft, and notice how much of the output is written or spoken rather than drawn. Trap to avoid: judging the role from portfolio sites, which show only the polished 5%.
How to use this resource
Still the clearest hour-by-hour account of the role from inside a large product org. Published 2019, so treat the market and tooling context as dated; the shape of the work is not. Pair it with the 2026 market video in this phase.
