Running a user interview
After this you can write a discussion guide and run a non-leading interview that produces stories rather than opinions.
Why it matters
The core technique is asking about the *past*, not the hypothetical: 'tell me about the last time you did X' yields evidence, 'would you use a feature that does X' yields politeness. Learn the funnel (broad opening, narrowing follow-ups) and get comfortable with silence, which is where the useful material surfaces. Beginners talk far too much, explain their design mid-interview, and accept the first answer. Practise on five people before it matters. Trap: recruiting only friends, who will lie to protect your feelings.
How to use this resource
Practical end to end: recruiting, guide writing, running the session, note taking. Structured enough to follow the first time you do it for real.
