How the loop is structured
After this you can name each stage of a typical product design loop and what is being assessed in it.
Why it matters
A typical loop: recruiter screen, portfolio walkthrough, a design exercise (whiteboard or take-home), an app critique or craft round, cross-functional interviews with a PM and an engineer, and a hiring manager conversation. Knowing what each round assesses lets you stop performing the wrong skill: the whiteboard is not testing your drawing, it is testing how you handle ambiguity out loud. Some 2026 loops now skip the walkthrough and open Figma instead, so be ready to show working files, not only polished slides. Trap: not asking the recruiter what the format is. Always ask; they will usually tell you.
