Components, variants and properties
After this you can build a reusable component with variants and properties, and change it in one place to update it everywhere.
Why it matters
Components are the unit of scale in Figma and the foundation of every design system. Learn main components versus instances, variants for state (default, hover, disabled, error), and component properties for text, boolean and instance swaps. The design judgement is knowing *what* deserves to be a component and how many variants are too many; a button with forty variants is a smell. Trap: nesting components carelessly so that overrides break on update, which will cost you hours later.
