Systems and research depth · Proficient · Lesson 77 of 99 · about 4 weeks
Project: own a design-system area or a research programme
After this you have run a piece of shared design infrastructure for at least eight weeks that other people depend on, with evidence of use.
Why it matters
Brief: take ownership of one of the following for at least eight weeks. Option A is a design-system area: a component family, the token architecture, or the contribution process. Write its documentation, run a contribution or review cycle with at least two other designers or teams, keep a decision log, and measure adoption before and after (detached instances, screens using it, tickets). Option B is a research programme: write a research plan tied to the next quarter's product decisions, run at least two studies of different methods including one survey or quantitative study, set up a findings repository, and record which decisions the research changed. Either way, include content and accessibility standards where relevant. Constraints: it must be used by people other than you; if it is not, change it until it is. It is good when the evidence in the phase brief can be shown, not asserted.
How to use this resource
For option A: a compact statement of what a system's parts are for. Use it to check your documentation covers each one. For option B, use the research-repositories article from earlier in this phase as the reference instead.
