Gestalt principles and the psychology of grouping
After this you can explain why users perceive certain elements as related, and use proximity, similarity and closure deliberately instead of accidentally.
Why it matters
Gestalt explains the mechanism behind rules you will otherwise learn as superstition: why a label must sit closer to its own field than to the next one, why inconsistent icon styles make a toolbar feel unrelated. Proximity is the one that fixes the most beginner layouts: whitespace between groups must exceed whitespace within a group. These are perceptual facts, not fashions, so any age of source is fine. Trap: reciting the principles in interviews without being able to point at a screen and apply them.
How to use this resource
Ties each principle to an interface consequence rather than to the usual abstract dot diagrams.
