Telling data analyst, data scientist and data engineer apart
After this you can explain how the analyst role differs from data science, data engineering and analytics engineering, and which one fits you.
Why it matters
Job titles in data are inconsistent: one company's 'data scientist' is another's 'senior analyst'. Learn the underlying split instead. Engineers build and run the pipelines, analysts answer business questions with the data those pipelines produce, scientists specialise in statistics, experimentation and modelling, and analytics engineers sit between engineering and analysis. When you read job adverts later, judge them by the listed tasks, not the title.
How to use this resource
A clear walk through how a modern data team divides the work between engineers, analysts, scientists and architects, with the hand-offs between them.
