Designing dashboards people actually use
After this you can design a dashboard around a small set of decisions, lay it out for scanning, and decide what not to include.
Why it matters
A dashboard is a product with users. Start from the decisions it supports and the three to five numbers that drive them; put the most important at top left; give every chart a comparison (target, last period) so the number means something. The trap is the 'everything dashboard' with thirty charts, which is opened once and then ignored.
