Working from tickets in a team process
After this you can pick up a ticket, clarify it, give a rough estimate, report progress honestly in a stand-up, and contribute to an open-source project.
Why it matters
Most teams run some version of Scrum or Kanban. You need to know the vocabulary (sprint, backlog, stand-up, retro) and, more importantly, the habits: clarify the ticket before starting, say early when something is bigger than expected, and make your progress visible. The best practice environment you can get without a job is open source. Find a project with 'good first issue' labels and go through the whole loop: claim, clarify, implement, open a pull request, respond to review. Trap: going quiet when stuck. Asking after an hour is professional; asking after three days is a problem.
