JavaScript fundamentals: values, control flow and functions
After this you can write JavaScript programs that use variables, conditions, loops, functions, arrays and objects to solve small problems.
Why it matters
This is the longest topic in the phase and it should be. You need to be fluent in the basics, not just familiar: declaring variables with `const` and `let`, the main types, `if` and loops, writing and calling functions, and working with arrays and objects. Code along with every example, then close the video and do exercises. Exercism's JavaScript track gives you small problems with automated tests and optional human mentoring, which is exactly the feedback loop you need. Traps: `var` and loose equality (`==`) appear in older material; use `let`/`const` and `===`. Do not try to learn a framework yet.
How to use this resource
A thorough beginner course. Pause and type everything; do not just watch.
